Blue. All shades of it make me positively giddy! That’s why I had to post this picture (and more to come) from the Country Living Fair 2011. I remember, in an Interior Design class, our professor asked us to bring in an object of personal inspiration to share. Many students brought in electronics; portable cd players, cordless phones…..okay I’m dating myself here. I brought in… a robins egg…the most beautiful, serene shade of blue. Taking a stroll and finding one, to me is like being in second grade and finding a quarter on the ground. My heart would flip as I knelt to pick it up. Oh how life’s possibilities could open up! I could buy a gumball, and hope I would get a pink one…no, I might end up with an orange one (tongue and lips to match, and one questioning mother). Or I could save it to invest in an entire pack of grape bubblegum. Sometimes I would settle on holding the quarter in my hands, flipping it back and forth, until I could no longer stand the sweaty, slippery metal, and the quarter’s ridges scraping on my palm. I would then slip it into my pocket, and make a mental note to myself not to run it through the washer…..The egg-back to the egg: Seeing the possibilities in a small simple object, and using it as design inspiration to create an amazing bedroom, selecting a wall color, or framing the egg’s in a shadowbox with a quote about new life…rebirth…spring. Carrying objects into a local paint store and matching nature’s hues. As the years pass, the more I treasure and see the importance of finding inspiration in the small spontaneous gifts of nature. What do you need to be inspired? Finding out what it is…what gets you moving, thinking, living, is just as important as water, food, a goood cup of coffee. Enjoy the pictures. Yeah! I can’t wait to to share more from the Country Living Fair.
