I’ve been trying to look at the upside of this cold Ohio winter…..we are in the home stretch! I tell myself if it’s too cold outside, I can get a lot done around the house, enjoy the fireplace, a warm cup of coffee, slippers…….once spring hits, I’m outa’ here, that is, outside on my bike, or planting, breathing new life……eck! I can’t wait!
Painting, while staying warm in my home has been my saving grace during the winter. My biggest inspiration has been my children. Whenever I paint I include something about them in each work. I love whispering that part in their ear when they view it for the first time…..the look on their face, knowing, they are so cherished . That would be an understatement……
My youngest has always loved cardinals ( we share something in common). Since I can remember, a cardinal has always been number one on his Christmas wish list.
What a winter gift to see one as I peer out the window and spot the brilliant red dotting the glistening snowy branches…….between that and my son the inspiration to create begins…..
Bright red on old sheet music, a nod to my music lover daughter, A cardinal silhouette to my youngest….all against a dark winter sky and a favorite quotation, well that part might be for me….
I’ve created a small painting nook that I frequently share with my source of inspiration. I had to laugh when I saw the new sign he created for the space. He also left a bit of evidence on the edge of my painting. Ten years from now, that will be even more special. As Kelly Rae Roberts, one of my favorite artists says, “Happy accidents”. I’m in love with the quotation on the painting……
“A bird in a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because her trust is not in the branch but in her own wings”.
